The Ship

MS »Cape Ray« is a modern Capesize bulk carrier of about
177.000 tdw. It starts charter contract with Transfield ER
Cape Ltd. with an option for the charterer to continue the employment.

The Market

Bulk carriers are those ships that carry unpackaged commodities such as coal, ore or cereals. Part of the reason for their success today is because they are exposed to the resources cycle: more coal or iron ore being mined in places like Australia and demanded in places like China obviously requires more dry bulkers to carry it all.

Shipyard

MS »Cape Ray« was built by SWS Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard, the largest shipyard in China. Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd (SWS) is a joint venture shared by China State Shipbuilding Corporation (the proprietor), Shanghai Bao Steel Group Inc., Shanghai Electrical Group Corporation, China Shipbuilding Trade Corporation and Jiangnan Shipyard (Group) Co., Ltd. SWS is a modern shipyard established through powerful union with complementary advantages and multiple investments.

Charterer

The vessel was chartered since delivery in September 2007 by the owners to Transfield ER Cape Ltd. The charter starts with a daily charter average of USD 42.000 (net). The takeover of the vessel to the respective issuer is expected between October 10 and November 15, 2008.

From take over the rest term charter amounts therefore from approx. 30 to 32 months. In addition, a connection charter has been agreed with the Charterer about 15 months to a rate of USD 42,000 per day (net). The Charterer has the option to extend the connection charter by another 12 months.

Bezeichnung für Bulk Carrier mit einer Tragfähigkeit von 100.000 – 200.000 tdw, die aufgrund ihrer Abmessungen weder den Suezkanal noch den Panamakanal passieren können und deshalb die Routen um das Kap der guten Hoffnung und Kap Horn wählen müssen. Bulk Carrier dieser Größenklasse transportieren hauptsächlich Eisenerz und Kohle (siehe auch Bulk Carrier).
