Baltic freight index rises

The Baltic Exchange's main sea freight index rose on Thursday with better cargo enquiry helping panamax vessels.

The index gauges the cost of shipping commodities including iron ore, cement, grain, coal and fertiliser. It rose 1.12 per cent to 1,801 points in a fifth session of gains. This development follows a fall over 35 straight sessions - the longest slide since 1995.
