KKR & Co., leading private equity company run by Henry Kravis and George Roberts, was the most active buyout firm 2011.
As reported by Bloomberg, KKR was followed by Bain Capital LLC, Apax Partners LP, Blackstone Group LP and Carlyle Group. The company invested 18.8 billion US-Dollar and was involved in 44 private equity deals. Bain Capital deployed 15.3 billion US-Dollar across 33 transactions in 2011. KKR's 7.2 billion US-Dollar acquisition of Tulsa, Oklahoma-based producer Samson Investment Co. represents the largest leveraged buyout in 2011 and it also topped the charts as the single largest private-equity-backed purchase of an E&P company ever. The acquisition was KKR's largest since it bought the U.S. Foodservice unit of Royal Ahold NV for 7.1 billion US-Dollar (2007).
